User Rights refers to special privileges and tools given to experienced and helpful members of C.Syde's Wiki. These privileges are generally tiered, with acquisition and proper use of lower rights required for obtaining higher rights. These tiers are:

Unregistered Users

Unregistered users are more than welcome to read articles on this wiki, however they cannot actively contribute here. If any users are wanting to leave messages on user talk pages, add comments to blogs, and participate in community discussions and voting discussions, they must join Fandom for a free account, or sign in if they are already registered.

These rules have taken effect as of 1st August 2015. Before this date, unregistered users were allowed to leave messages on user talk pages, add comments to blogs, and participate in community discussions and voting discussions. So you may see unregistered contributions on pages. The proposal and discussion can be found here.

Before the 7th May 2015, unregistered users were only allowed to leave messages on user talk pages, and add comments to blog posts. The proposal and discussion to lower the restriction of anonymous edits can be found here.

Registered Users

In addition to the rights previously extended to unregistered users, registered users are allowed to edit all pages on the wiki, except those that are locked for administrators, assistants, and content moderators only. Generally only templates and pages that are important to the function of the wiki are fully protected, but some pages that have been created by and are owned by a specific member of the administration team may be semi-protected or fully protected by the administrator, assistant, or content moderator in question.

Some of the pages on C.Syde's Wiki have been semi-protected or fully protected, so a registered user may need to ask a member of the administration team to unprotect the page so they can edit it. Generally pages that are semi-protected will be unprotected upon request, but if a page is fully protected, there is a possibility that the user's unprotection request may not be taken into consideration.

Registered Users are allowed to participate in all discussions, except those that have been reserved for administrators, assistants, and content moderators only. In order to become a registered user, unregistered users must register with Fandom and begin editing at C.Syde's Wiki.

Emailconfirmed Users

In addition to the rights extended to all registered users, emailconfirmed users don't have to go through a captcha when inserting an external link to a page, blanking a page, or creating a new account. To become an emailconfirmed user, a user must confirm their email address in their preferences. So in practice almost all registered users have emailconfirmed status across all of Fandom anyway.

Autoconfirmed Users

In addition to the rights extended to all registered users, autoconfirmed users have editing access to all pages that are semi-protected. To become an autoconfirmed user, a minimum of four days must have passed since the user's account was created. So in practice almost all registered users have autoconfirmed status across all of Fandom anyway.

Autopatrolled Users

Autopatrolled Users are users who have been editing on Fandom for some time and have demonstrated sufficient trust from an administrator or bureaucrat to not make inappropriate edits. Autopatrolled users have their edits automatically marked as patrolled so that content moderators, assistants, or administrators do not have to check their edits.

All administrators, assistants, content moderators, discussion moderators, and rollbackers are implicitly autopatrolled users already. Autopatrolled can be given out upon request or at an administrator or bureaucrat's discretion. Requests for Autopatrolled rights are made at the administrators' noticeboard. More information on Autopatrolled Users can be found here.

The Autopatrolled usergroup is a new usergroup that was officially released on The Sims Wiki on the 13th October 2018, and C.Syde's Wiki on the 5th July 2019. Before those dates, the usergroup did not exist.

Rollbackers

Rollbackers are a group of more experienced wiki editors. In addition to the privileges extended to regular users, Rollbackers are able to quickly and easily revert vandalism by other users, by use of the Rollback tool, and issue warnings to other users if necessary. Rollback rights are given out only when requested, and only if the user is not found to have a history of bad faith edits on other wikis. A history of strong contributions and anti-vandalism on other wikis is beneficial but not compulsory for Rollback candidates. Despite their lack of additional editing tools, they (along with discussion moderators) are considered to be the middle ground between regular users and admins. Requests for Rollback rights are made here.

Discussion Moderators

Discussion Moderators are users who have additional tools available to manage conversations in various features, such as the Discussions feature, across the community where users are having social discussions. They can remove and restore threads and replies from any user, and close and reopen threads. In the discussions feature specifically, discussion moderators have the ability to move threads from one category to another. All administrators are implicitly discussion moderators already. Discussion Moderators (along with rollbackers) are considered to be the middle ground between regular users and admins. Requests for Discussion Moderator rights are made here.

The Discussion Moderator usergroup is a new usergroup that was officially released across Fandom on the 21st January 2015. Before this date, the usergroup officially did not exist.

Content Moderators

Content Moderators are a group of frequent and experienced contributors to the wiki. In addition to the privileges extended to regular users and rollbackers, Content Moderators are able to ensure the functions of the wiki through vandalism prevention, and issuing warnings to users if necessary. Content Moderators are able to initiate and end formal votes or drives for consensus. Content Moderator rights can be requested here.

While it is not compulsory to be granted discussion moderator rights, it is strongly recommended, since Content Moderators do not have implicitly have Discussion Moderator rights by default, although they do automatically have Rollback rights. It is also recommended for users to apply for content moderatorship before applying for administratorship, since users that have already obtained content moderator rights are more likely to be granted administrator rights, since the jump from content moderator to administrator is smaller than the jump from rollback and/or discussion moderator to administrator.

The Content Moderator usergroup is a new usergroup that was officially released across Fandom on the 14th January 2016. Before this date, the usergroup officially did not exist.

Assistants

Assistants are a group of frequent and experienced contributors to the wiki. In addition to the privileges extended to regular users and rollbackers, Assistants are able to ensure the functions of the wiki through vandalism prevention, and issuing warnings to users if necessary. Assistants are able to initiate and end formal votes or drives for consensus. Assistant rights can be requested here. More information on Assistants can be found here.

While it is not compulsory to be granted discussion moderator rights, it is strongly recommended, since Assistants do not have implicitly have Discussion Moderator rights by default, although they do automatically have Rollback rights. It is also recommended for users to apply for assistantship before applying for administratorship, since users that have already obtained assistant rights are more likely to be granted administrator rights, since the jump from assistant to administrator is smaller than the jump from rollback and/or discussion moderator to administrator.

The Assistant usergroup is a new usergroup that was officially released on the Encyclopaedia SpongeBobia on the 20th February 2015, and C.Syde's Wiki on the 30th April 2015. Before those dates, the usergroup did not exist.

Administrators

Administrators are very frequent and experienced contributors to the wiki. They are entrusted with ensuring the function of the wiki through vandalism prevention, issuing blocks and warnings to users if necessary. Administrators are able to initiate and end formal votes or drives for consensus, and are able to edit pages, such as MediaWiki pages, that affect the functions of the wiki itself. Administrators can also grant and revoke Autopatrolled, Rollback, Discussion Moderator, Content Moderator and Assistant rights. Rollback, Discussion Moderator, Content Moderator, and / or Assistant rights are a prerequisite for Administrative rights. Administrative rights can be requested here.

Bureaucrats

Bureaucrats are among the most active, experienced and trusted wiki editors. Bureaucrats are able to grant and revoke Autopatrolled, Rollback, Content Moderator, Assistant and Administrator rights. However, they cannot grant and revoke Discussion Moderator rights, or edit pages that affect the functions of the wiki, without Administrator rights. On most wikis, administrative rights are a prerequisite for Bureaucrat rights, so in practice Bureaucrats are almost always Administrators anyway. However, users cannot apply for bureaucratship on C.Syde's wiki, since the position of bureaucratship on this wiki is strictly limited to C.Syde as the user who founded this wiki.

Bureaucrats on this wiki also have the ability to control how much weight their opinions and ideas hold. However, these situations are rare and should be kept to a minimum. So basically a bureaucrat should not manipulate the amount of weight their opinions and votes hold to take advantage of community votes, or to settle simple disagreements between users acting in good faith. A bureaucrat should only manipulate the amount of weight their opinions and votes hold for reasons out of safety of the wiki.

It is important to keep in mind that all users, from regular users to bureaucrats, can be good and constructive editors to the wiki. In short, no user is better than another, and the opinions and ideas of all users will be given equal weight.

My request for new rights was turned down

If you applied for Autopatrolled, Rollbacker, Discussion Moderator, Content Moderator, Assistant or Administrator rights but were denied, it may be for a number of reasons.

Not have those rights on a 'larger scale' wiki.

You may need to receive those rights on a larger scale wiki, before you can be trusted to obtain them on C.Syde's Wiki.

Don't have prerequisites

In order to apply for Administratorship, you must have either rollback, discussion moderator, content moderator, or assistant rights. Be sure to obtain lower-tiered rights before applying for higher-tiered ones.

Inexperience

Holders of special rights are expected to understand how to edit the wiki on a more advanced level than a new user. Users who do not demonstrate an improved editing ability may find attaining new rights difficult. Learning how to edit the wiki has multiple additional benefits, above and beyond getting certain rights, so taking the initiative to learn is a definitely a good idea.

You were recently denied

Patience is a virtue. As such, if you recently applied for a position and were turned down, it is best to wait awhile before reapplying. Applying too often may be taken as a sign that you are too ambitious and not prepared for the responsibilities of the position you're applying for, and might make you less likely to get the position.

You were placed on editing restriction or probation

Users who are currently placed on editing restriction, or probation, are ineligible to obtain user rights.

It is important to keep in mind that all users can grow into strong contributors, even those who do not have rollback, discussion moderator, content moderator, assistant, administrator or bureaucrat rights. You do not need to be an administrator to be an important part of the wiki.

How to Request

Requests for Administratorship are reviewed by me (C.Syde65) without much input from others.

I am usually the one who ends up reviewing requests for Autopatrolled, Rollback, Discussion Moderator, Content Moderator, and Assistantship, but they can be reviewed, accepted, or declined by any administrator.

It is largely my discretion whether or not you are ready to be made an Administrator; some possible reasons for being turned down are listed above.
