C.Syde's Wiki Chat was a real-time chat where users were able to chat in an open environment.

Accessing Chat

To access Chat, users were able to click the 'Form a Club' button below.

Chat Widget

Alternatively users were able to access from anywhere on the wiki they were able to see the widget or by typing Special:Chat into the search bar/URL bar.

Chat hacks were enabled on C.Syde's Wiki, so that users could customise ping phrases that were able to attract their attention, if other users in the chat said any of that user's ping phrases.

Users also had control over the tag which differentiated a user who was away from a user who was not away. If users had not posted anything in the chat in a certain amount of time, they would be automatically be tagged as 'away'.

Having this status would have caused one's username in the chat room to appear in grey lettering, and the words 'On Holiday' would have appeared underneath.

Rules

There was an official rule-set for Chat which can be viewed here. Failure to follow the policy may have resulted in a warning, kick or a ban from Chat.

In short, users needed to use their common sense and treat others how they wished to be treated. That way everyone would get along nicely and drama/conflict would be kept to a minimum. If users happened to witness something they shouldn't then they should have told a chat moderator (listed with a badge next to their name) via a private message.

Private messaging

Private messages were conversations between a user and one other user. If a user was in a private message room with someone, they had the ability to stop receiving their private messages by selecting 'block private messages' in their username menu. This setting was permanent and Fandom-wide until they selected 'Allow private messages' from their menu in the general chat room.

Chat moderators

Users in Chat with a badge next to their name were known as chat moderators. By default, this included administrators and discussion moderators. These users were able to kick and ban users who may have been engaging in disruptive behaviour.

List of chat moderators

Below is a list of users that would have had chat moderator rights on C.Syde's Wiki. This included administrators and discussion moderators:

User Position Promotion date Country Current status
C.Syde65 (talk) Administrator, Assistant, Bureaucrat 17th September 2014 Flag of New Zealand New Zealand Active
JustLeafy (talk) Discussion Moderator 21st September 2017 Flag of Lebanon Lebanon Inactive

User options

Clicking on a name in the user list would have opened a menu. You could see the user's name, edit count, join date as well as access their talk page, contributions and send them a private message. Private message opened a new private message room.

Unbanning users

If a user was banned from the chat, an administrator or discussion moderator could unban directly from the chat, or by going to the user's contributions page and clicking on unban. They would be instantly unbanned and allowed to participate in the chat.

Administrators were only able to ban chat moderators, discussion moderators, and other administrators inside the chat, since they didn't have the option to do this by going to the user's contributions. If an administrator banned another administrator from chat, the banned administrator would have been able to unban themselves by going to their contributions and clicking on unban.

Chat moderators and discussion moderators were only able to ban other chat moderators and discussion moderators inside the chat, since they didn't have the option to do this by going to the user's contributions. If a chat moderator or discussion moderator banned another chat moderator or discussion moderator from chat, the banned chat moderator or discussion moderator were able to unban themselves by going to their contributions and clicking on unban.

Chat moderators and discussion moderators weren't able to unban themselves if the user who banned them was an administrator, wiki manager, or staff. However, they were able to remove bans issued by administrators if the banned user did not have administrator or chat moderator status.

'Me' action

A feature in chat, borrowed from IRC, was the '/me' action. If a user (for example: YourName) preceded an entry in chat with '/me', it would render specially:

/me is going to the movies.

would appear as:

* YourName is going to the movies.

Subpages

  • Chat Logs - Logs of conversation in chat.
  • Bot Commands - Commands that could be used in chat. Certain commands could only be used by administrators or discussion moderators.
  • Command Logs - Logs of commands used in chat.
  • Service Commands - Commands that could be used in chat. These commands could only be used by certain users.
